With the idea of bringing color to today’s world, the NFT Doodles collection was born, bringing us a cute concept in avatars of different characteristics.
In total there are 10,000 different nft ready and willing through the illustrator Burn Toast, who we also know by his real name: Scott Martin. He is quite well known in the digital media thanks to his contributions through illustrations and designs for companies with a lot of relevance, for example, Google, Snapchat, WhatsApp and many, many more. But through Doodles he seeks to do something on his own and with illustrations entirely made by his own hand.
A single person can not carry such a big project on their own so to fully form the development team of Doodles we can find two people who previously worked at CryptoKitties, therefore former employees of Dapper Labs: Evan Keast, who specializes in branding and Jordan Castro, illustrator. Who we also know by the pseudonym “Poopie”.
After having a very successful exclusive pre-sale among the community, the Doodles were immediately minted on October 17th of this year. They all had the starting price of 0.123 ETH.
At the time of making the minting public for the community, the percentage of gas in Ethereum was abysmal, having an immediate shot at valuing it at over 1 ETH per mintage thanks to how excited the community was with the Doodle,s launch that had been making quite a dent with the hype. And we can’t blame them, the aesthetics of the illustration of each Doodle is beautiful and the past of the founders was quite compromising compared to what we had seen so far, so it looked like a reliable and successful project.
Building the Doodles community
Doodles took the community building bit by bit as they ramped up the number of public impressions. In fact, it was done very organically, which was unexpected for the community.
They were gradually calling the most famous or renowned collectors of the moment to the Discord group through personal invitations, even a month in advance before the public minting on October 17.
One of the particularities of this way of inviting the community, is that the developers allowed that any collector or fan who already had an entry in the Discord server, could mint five Doodles in a private sale. Although the server was closed to the public a week and a half before the minting process.
The Doodle minting page
The Doodles team’s move to close the community and make it more exclusive before proceeding with the minting made more people focus on the project.
The idea of this is to make the community that was interested in the theme from the beginning and wanted to be part of the community have privileges before the merchants took over the project and sought more benefits for their own intentions.
What was the presale like?
There was a great commotion among the people who were not aware of the project in time, and among the public minters who showed different emotions about the fact that you could buy with five coins. There were doubts as to whether the number should have been much lower or whether it really would have been better if it had been done differently. But even so, this did not discourage the creators of Doodles as they were experienced and knew that this could be a double-edged sword.
Although that minority of collectors were somewhat unhappy with the release, Doodles held firm to the idea of creating a new community within NFT and added another new method for the company’s future projects to build on Doodles or mimic its vibe. And his attempts to bring the community in peace has worked, as the community is one of the most communicative, active and consistent among the NFT collections. Something that many creators dream of but fail to achieve, could it be that the filter mode they took at the beginning of the project was the key to achieving this? Speculation gives the nod to this theory.
The Doodles roadmap: What’s next?
The team that launched the NFT Doodles project through collectible illustrations has shown since its launch to have great potential to become one of the great and remembered by the community.
One of the best things they have done is that through their website they opened a forum available for the Doodles community to offer new proposals for what will be done next with the project. And best of all, opinions from other participants are given to determine if it will be carried out or not.
Currently there is a proposal quite prominent in the community, about a temporary contract to make Doodles go to animation. And for now they have 420 ETH from the initial sale, part of the secondary sales in other markets, among other investments to feed the ideas that are exposed or the most famous among them.
It is still not really known what the next step will be for Doodles and its bright and sweet collection, but there is hope that the idea of hiring animators and seeing Doodles from another perspective will be kept alive.
We have seen many projects that try to cover too many things in their first year of launch, or promise too many projects on their roadmap, but Doodles believes that the ideal is to do things little by little, and most importantly, do them with quality.
Doodles is a clear example of art that causes tenderness and childlike wonder and that can inspire many people. Moreover, it showed us a fresh way to build a lasting community through NFTs and that with a well-formed team, success can be achieved within the jungle.
Let’s hope that if the animation proposal hits its stride, new benefits can be unlocked for Doodle owners. Like AirDrops, companions or collaborations between projects. But for now we can only support and have faith in the ability of its developers.
